Recording : Problem solving class on Differentiation – I

April 29, 2011 3 comments

This class took place on Wednesday, 27th April 2011. This class was conducted for regular students only as they have already been taught limits and continuity in the class. If other were allowed to attend, they would have got confused.

Only half of the students could attend this class as rest half had no information about the class. Actually it was decided that the class would be announced to students when they will come for the test series. I think it was announced but not in all groups. From next time, I will make sure to send SMS. I hope you would also be getting emails when I put an alert on edmodo.com

Those who could not attend the class and go through the recording of the class. I have uploaded the recording at YouTube this time. The link to view the video will be published at edmodo.com. Those who will see the recording, please share the YouTube experience vs Sproutvideo.com. You can post comment to this blog where you can compare the quality and ease of running the video.

AIEEE 2011–Best of Luck and final tips

April 22, 2011 1 comment

After IITJEE 2011 is over, now it is AIEEE 2011. There is no doubt that AIEEE is equally important. Those who are not spending at least 10-12 hours a day are idiots. AIEEE exam is race against time. You would know enough questions that you can keep yourself busy during the exam. So those who could not perform in JEE, have another chance to show worth of the hard work done in last 2 years.

I thought of recording a short video to give you some tips. Then I realized whatever I wanted to say is already there in the video I recorded for AIEEE 2010. Following is the link in case you want some last moment tips.

AIEEE 2011–Best of Luck and final tips

Some of the tips that would be important are:

1. Study 10-12 hrs everyday in the remaining days.

2. Take at least one time-bound AIEEE test everyday.

3. Don’t solve any difficult question in the remaining days as most of the questions in AIEEE exam would be easy or average.

4. Throw IITJEE out of your mind. Now it is just AIEEE.

5. In exam, don’t waste time in thinking how to solve. If you don’t know the solution, skip to next question. There are enough questions to be solved.

6. Read topics which were not part of JEE syllabus. Don’t leave any topic untouched.

Finally, on behalf of VMC team, I  wish all of you best of luck for the exam.

Actual Marks vs Rank Data of IITJEE 2008, 2009 and 2010

I have compiled actual marks vs rank data for last 3 years IITJEE exams in a tabular form. This table would help you know what ranks students got in last 3 years in JEE based on the marks they scored. For example, those who got 1000 rank in JEE 2008, 2009, 2010 scored 260 , 278, 278 marks respectively out of 480.

You can get an idea of your rank in JEE 2011 based on marks you are expecting to get in JEE 2011 exams. This year in JEE 2011 exams, it was more scoring than previous years. So to get same rank, you need to score more. These are just speculations and anytime they can go wrong. This is because there is no trend. For example in Jee2010, you need to score less marks to get rank in top 500 as compared to Jee2009 BUT you need to score more to get ranks below 1000. This shows that 2010 has more number of difficult questions than Jee2009 but at the same time, it had more number of easy questions as well.

What rank I can expect in IITJEE 2011 result?

April 17, 2011 3 comments

This year we decided not to publish rank speculation data which can be used to calculate your expected rank in IITJEE 2011. Generally every year some students refer these speculations and do wrong estimation of their ranks. When the result is out, even though they score decent ranks, they feel depressed. I know examples where students who scored rank in top 500 were not happy because they were expecting better.

But there are lots of request to publish this data. So finally we decided to publish this though these are just speculations.

To speculate your rank it is important that you remember your attempts in exam and you have gone through solutions and answer keys available at various sites. You can download detailed solutions from 100percentile or Vidyamandir website.

While calculating your marks it is advised to you that you should not include partial marks and also don’t include those for which you are not sure what you marked in the exam.

About IITJEE 2011 papers

IITJEE 2011 exams were more scoring than last year. Physics was definitely easy and scoring. Mathematics had tricky questions but it was easier to score this year as compared to last few years. This is because there were many typical and easy questions which helped students build a flow which was never possible in earlier years. Chemistry was easy but again little tricky. So, overall all three papers were more scoring than last year papers. Hence students need to score more marks to get similar ranks this year.

Based on our experience, calculations and last year rank data provided by IIT, we have made a following table to guide you what rank you can expect.

Marks Range scored in IITJEE 2011 papers out of 480
