MathOnFridays–Week 51 : After the session ends

January 3, 2013 11 comments

In week – 51 session, I discussed IITJEE past years problems based on Differential Calculus – 2 (increasing, decreasing, local maximum-minimum, curve sketching etc). It was a good class as there were many things to learn as well some problems were very interesting.

There was a confusion when I was plotting graph of JEE question came in 2012. I got confused how graphs of two functions will touch each other when they are crossing each other at x=1. I tried later after the class and I could plot their graphs again. Please see the image below.

Please give your feedback if you like the class. Your positive feedbacks really motivates me and fuels my passion.

MathOnFridays – Week 48 After the session ends

Please find the recording of Week 48 session on MathonFridays. I was supposed to upload it last friday but I could not do so as there was problem with the conversion of video to a format that youtube can understand. But now I could do it and hence make it available for you to see it. Also there are two parts of the video. There are just 2 questions in part-2.

In this session I had discussed past JEE papers based on 3-Dimensional Coordinate Geometry. Most of the questions were just formula based and could be easily solved sitting in JEE exam. So my advice is to make it your scoring topic and while preparing spend time on fundamental questions, try to visualize and don’t do very complex questions.

MathOnFridays – Week 47 – After the session ends

Please find the recording of week 47 session where I discussed IIT past year problems based on vectors. Personally I liked this class very much. It was surprised when I found  the level of the vector questions asked since 2007. Vector is definitely among the top 3 difficult topics of JEE preparations (other two are probability and complex numbers). But when I was solving these questions in one go before the class, I realized that most of the questions were based on fundamentals.

In all there were 16 questions asked in last 6 years (2007 to 2012). Out of them 12 were easy and rest 4 were either average or difficult. There were 3 questions based on scalar triple product and 3 on vector triple product. All these six questions were easy. Around 3 based on geometry where you just draw figure and you get the answer. Rest were from dot product and cross product but most of them involved fundamental concepts.

My advice : I am sure many of you find Vectors difficult. There are so many questions in module and books. So please don’t get overwhelmed. Focus on fundamentals and practice the fundamental questions and leave unnecessary difficult questions. I don’t want to say you will be given easy question to solve in the coming JEE exam but it is important that you gain confidence on this topic so that you are ready to apply fundamentals.

Please give feedback of this sessions and your views.
