MathOnFridays–Week 01-2013 : After the session ends

January 4, 2013 14 comments

I took first MathOnFridays session of the year today. The session was based on probability topic which is one of my favorite topics. I don’t know about students but I had great fun teaching today’s session. Out of 13 problems discussed today, I would rate 6 easy and rest average to difficult considering the fact that someone is solving these questions sitting in JEE exam.

MathOnFridays–Week 51 : After the session ends

January 3, 2013 11 comments

In week – 51 session, I discussed IITJEE past years problems based on Differential Calculus – 2 (increasing, decreasing, local maximum-minimum, curve sketching etc). It was a good class as there were many things to learn as well some problems were very interesting.

There was a confusion when I was plotting graph of JEE question came in 2012. I got confused how graphs of two functions will touch each other when they are crossing each other at x=1. I tried later after the class and I could plot their graphs again. Please see the image below.

Please give your feedback if you like the class. Your positive feedbacks really motivates me and fuels my passion.

MathOnFridays – Week 49 – After the session ends

December 7, 2012 3 comments

In this session we discuss past year JEE problems from Differential Calculus-I topic. There were around 10 questions on evaluation of limits in last 6 years. All of them were easy to average. But some of the other questions involve tricks which need to be thought before you can start solving questions. It was a fun class and you will like it you like Calculus.

You can download the pdf of the questions discussed in the class at the following location. Even it includes the text I wrote to solve the questions.

MathOnFridays – Week 48 After the session ends

December 6, 2012 2 comments

Please find the recording of Week 48 session on MathonFridays. I was supposed to upload it last friday but I could not do so as there was problem with the conversion of video to a format that youtube can understand. But now I could do it and hence make it available for you to see it. Also there are two parts of the video. There are just 2 questions in part-2.

In this session I had discussed past JEE papers based on 3-Dimensional Coordinate Geometry. Most of the questions were just formula based and could be easily solved sitting in JEE exam. So my advice is to make it your scoring topic and while preparing spend time on fundamental questions, try to visualize and don’t do very complex questions.

Please give your feedback as comment and also visit MathOnFridays facebook page to LikeIT if you like it. You can access facebook page at: http://facebook.com/MathonFridays

MathOnFridays – Week 47 – After the session ends

Please find the recording of week 47 session where I discussed IIT past year problems based on vectors. Personally I liked this class very much. It was surprised when I found  the level of the vector questions asked since 2007. Vector is definitely among the top 3 difficult topics of JEE preparations (other two are probability and complex numbers). But when I was solving these questions in one go before the class, I realized that most of the questions were based on fundamentals.

In all there were 16 questions asked in last 6 years (2007 to 2012). Out of them 12 were easy and rest 4 were either average or difficult. There were 3 questions based on scalar triple product and 3 on vector triple product. All these six questions were easy. Around 3 based on geometry where you just draw figure and you get the answer. Rest were from dot product and cross product but most of them involved fundamental concepts.

My advice : I am sure many of you find Vectors difficult. There are so many questions in module and books. So please don’t get overwhelmed. Focus on fundamentals and practice the fundamental questions and leave unnecessary difficult questions. I don’t want to say you will be given easy question to solve in the coming JEE exam but it is important that you gain confidence on this topic so that you are ready to apply fundamentals.

Please give feedback of this sessions and your views.

MathOnFridays – Week 46 – Before the session begins

November 15, 2012 11 comments

As it is a first session tomorrow, I want to keep a topic that is of interest to IITJEE 2014 students too. I understand many of MathOnFridays sessions will be for IITJEE 2013 students as there syllabus is on near completion.

Tomorrow I will discuss Complex Number problems from last few JEE papers. There is no need to go through these questions before the class though I will try to upload the PDF if I could type them on time. I am JIT (Just in Time) kind of person who does things just before the deadline 🙂

I know even IITJEE-2014 students have studied Complex Numbers. So everyone can attend this session. If possible, revise your class notes before the class.

Hoping best to effectively utilize your and my time through “MathOnFridays”.

Starting new webinar series – MathOnFridays

November 12, 2012 27 comments

I am going to start a webinar series “MathOnFridays” from coming friday for those who are preparing for IITJEE.

On every friday, I will take a webinar (session) on some topic. The duration of the session would be around 1-2 hours and it will be conducted at 9.00 PM. It is little late but during the day most of you have your classes at VMC centers.

These sessions are completely optional. So if you miss any of the sessions, there is no need to panic.

Some of the topics I have in mind for these sessions include Test Series and HRT, IITJEE papers of previous years and some problem solving from module. If you have suggestions on what to cover in these sessions, please let me know through comments.

The link to register for these sessions will be shared at Edmodo.

TS-5 Paper Discussion

October 15, 2012 6 comments

Based on doubts you have raised, I will be discussing following questions in today’s class.

ACEG Paper – 1 : 70, 83, 87

ACEG Paper – 2 : 45, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 54, 58, 59

I might solve few more towards end if I will have some time.

Difficult questions will be discussed in the beginning like Paper-2 45, 47, 54, 58, 59, 48 and then rest of the questions.

If you have further suggestions or comments, please post your comments.

TS-5 Paper discussion

October 11, 2012 29 comments

Today I took TS-5 discussion class. It was fun to teach around 500 students. My account does not allow more than 500 attendees. I was not expecting so many people. I apologies to those who could not attend the session. I will upload the recording and they can see the recording.

Those who attended the class, please give some feedback through your comments so that I can decide whether I should take such classes in future. I don’t want to waste everyone’s precious time. Even I value my time and energy.

Also type in as comments the questions numbers from TS-5 Math papers that you wanted me to discuss but I could not cover in today’s class. I will either take another session or record a video.
