MathOnFridays Week 19 : Discussion of problems from Advanced Mock Tests 1 and 2

I will be discussing problems based on Advanced Mock Test – 1 and 2 for IITJEE 2013 students. If you have already registered for MOF, there is no need to register again as this link is same. But if you have recently registered in last 3-4 weeks, you need to do it again. This class is exclusively for VMC students.

Please mention the questions numbers as comments to be covered in this class and some subsequent classes. Also mention the Advanced Mock Test number.

      I think misprinting, not ‘great circle’, radius of “greatest circle” 🙂

    Test-1 Paper-1 :-
    52,54,59(is there any otherway to do it than the one given to us),
    61[option B says that g'(t) vanishes for t=3/2 and t=1 ,this should mean g'(t) is not defined whereas the solution implies the meaning that g'(t) =0 for t=3/2 and t=1]
    63,66,67,68

    Paper-2:- 41, 43,44
    50 [ is this ques supposed to be left in the exam bcoz the idea given in solution is almost impossible to get in exam!!]
    54, 56 [also please tell,….”What is the principle of Inclusion and Exclusion mentioned in the solution”??]
    60 -option B- answer should be (5 sqrt3) and not (10 sqrt3)
    -option D- how to draw cos inverse of |cosx| graph??

    Test-2 Paper-1
    IS COMPLEX-2 A PART OF JEE ADVANCED??
    42,44,51,56,53, 54 [how to do option B an C??]

    Paper-2:- 43 [is the solution given also WRONG??] & 53.

    in q 41, take A(a,0) and B(b,0).drop a perpendicular on BC.
    it will act as perpendicular bisector such that 2a=2
    we know sq(a) + sq(b)=4. b=sq root(3)
    hence C(2,sqroot(3)) will satisfy locus & option C does

    bhaiya, i think that in that question (equilateral triangle one), we can perpendicular at mid-point D of AB to C and applying parametric form between D and C . Now, analyse the angle used in parametric form in triangle ABC to eliminate the angle.
    if, (a,b) is midpoint, then finally,
    x = a + root3 b,
    y = b + root3a
    also,
    a^2 + b^2 =1,
    use this to eliminate a and b ……
    i think this won’t be very lenghty

      I got the Answer. It is definitely lot less calculations. Thx,
